Salerno September 13th, 1943
The 504th jumped near Paestum. Fifth Army was endangered and the 504th was needed badly. The 504th holds off last German counter offensive. Helps to save beachead. Motto of Strike Hold adopted for action. |

Naples-Foggia October 1, 1943
The 504th is 1st Infantry unit to enter Naples. Takes city and garrisons it, then goes on to cross the Volturo and captures Isernia,Colli, Macchia, Fornelli, Cerro and Rochetta. |

Anzio Beachead January 22nd, 1944
The 504th fights as a Regimental Combat Team separated from the 82nd. The 504th lands at Red Beach. In months of bitter fighting the Germans come to call them "Devils in Baggy Pants". |
